Hearths for the Seven-fold FIRES


Here I’d like to expand upon some points found in Chapter 0.
These articles on the planes are meant to clarify terminology.   They are NOT meant to set out a grand universal constitution of exact correspondences.   This has and will be accomplished by the group of those interested through other articles and over a larger scale of time.

Why is it important to understand DK’s distinct terminology, derived from HPB, Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese, Neoplatonic, Masonic and many other terminologies?   For several reasons.

These articles on the planes are meant to clarify terminology:
    1.   in order to assess or analyze written and conceptual material reflectively and synthetically, which engenders intuitive clarity and accuracy;
    2.   in order to ‘place’ DK’s discourse in relation to the material he is discussing in any particular moment or context, in other words, to see clearly what he is actually saying interdependently;
    3.   in order to fill out a vast visualization form for meditative work, which is what DK’s books were meant to accomplish in the first place.

DK/AAB’s writings are esoteric and can be expected “To investigate the unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in man,” the third Object of the Theosophical Society.   In other words, these recent 20th century writings could be the key to cultivating and practicing the siddhis or the exceptional powers of Yoga and Buddhist philosophy, or the white magic of western Neoplatonic and esoteric spiritual and Christian schools of thought (such as the Rosicrucian and Hermetic philosophies).   The point is a resultant exceptional practice and service for those esoteric students and sensitives who experience an extraordinary disconnect between inner and outer worlds of thought, action, and human society.   Clarity is the doorway into the Society of Illumined Minds that takes place on the inner planes.

Let me illustrate.   In order to understand the Heavenly Man or the Soul aspect of the planetary Logos, it is necessary to understand the human constitution in detail in the in gritty context of human society.   The causal body of the Heavenly Man is on the 3rd subplane of the cosmic mental plane.   His antahkarana is functioning, unlike most of humanity, so there is a much closer relation between cosmic buddhic and manasic levels, and hence the positioning of the planetary Hierarchy, his heart center, on the systemic buddhic plane.   The “lesser Heavenly Man” is the Heavenly Man taking incarnation systemically, and is focused on our systemic monadic plane, which represents His buddhic-manasic and abstract mental focus.   Remember, His mental, emotional and physical planes correspond to our planes of the triad — atma / buddhi / manas.   The Heavenly Man or planetary Soul on His Own level can be presumed to be in ceaseless meditation while the “lesser Heavenly Man” takes incarnation.   Thirdly, His actual physical incarnation takes place on the systemic mental plane (3rd subplane in general) through human Individualization and groups of human Egos, consciously or unconsciously interrelated.

Now let’s take a look at human constitution.   The human souls of the vast majority of humanity exist on the 3rd manasic subplane in latency.   Our souls are in ceaseless meditation while we do our thinking and experiencing on planes generally lower than the mental unit on the 4th subplane, which is the plane of Devachan, from which advanced humanity aspires to reincarnate (representing a ‘higher interlude’).   We live in a society where the intelligentsia and mundane influence and power perceives mind and cognition either as a sort of neural network or a vapor connected to and arising out of our physical bodies.   Only recently is hard-science credence being given to the 4th etheric level –the ‘chemical ether’– and this only through witnessing its effects on physical plane chemical and cellular constitutional levels.   On a growing public scale, the emerging alternative therapies are only beginning to be seen as evidence.

While spiritual students may take the existence of triadic levels, the soul and the astral and mental planes for granted, and even as operational through their complex chakra systems, the most influential (outwardly speaking) of our human race see us as physical consumers.   For the status quo establishment of most nations, there is still a battle going on between treating humans as productive consumers (slaves) or autonomous and productive citizens (freemen).   From the esoteric viewpoint, spiritual students are lumped in with a view of humans that could be characterized as a kind of physical mosquito buzzing around on the three lowest physical subplanes, tormenting each other!   The contemporary scientific majority still seem to insist that the mind has no existence separate from the brain, nerves and body (perhaps often for the sake of appearances and their jobs!)   The internet is helping many to visualize the nature of life and thought more intelligently and spiritually, but change seems slow.

It appears to me that most esoteric students, the religious, and spiritually minded humanity regard themselves as souls in incarnation, leaving aside the endless discussions over reincarnation.   It is important to see things as they are.   Esoterically, the “lesser Heavenly Man” is distinct from the Heavenly Man on His Own plane, and we have only begun to understand the planetary systemic constitution.   In fact it could be observed that DK leaves a great gap in discussing the planetary constitution, while his treatment of solar constitution seems much fuller and more readily accessible to the average reader of his books.   Planetary constitution, as in the sacred/non-sacred Earth scheme, becomes clearer predominantly through study of the Seven Rays, the Treatise on Cosmic Fire and Esoteric Astrology, which are advanced studies.

I hope this makes clear, by implication, the necessity to distinguish among planetary names such as spirit of the planet (physical), planetary Spirit (monadic), ray Lord, Spirit Before the Throne, planetary Entity, divine Manasaputra, Heavenly Man, lesser Heavenly Man, and the ‘ultimate’ or all-inclusive term of planetary Logos.   The Heavenly Man is not the “lesser Heavenly Man,” and These two are not identical (in terms of constitution and environment) with the planetary physical incarnation through the egoic groups on our triadic and higher-mental subplanes.   The human soul in ceaseless meditation on its own plane is not the human soul as experienced during incarnation, and these two are not the same as the human soul attempting to contact the brain in the physical body through meditative alignment, chakra development and etheric substitution.

The same distinctions need to be accorded to human monads (IVth Creative Hierarchy), solar Logos, Logos of star Sirius, Sirian System Logos (of 7 solar systems) and cosmic Logos (of 7 constellations).   And this for Their systems, psyches, minds, souls, triads, monads and constitutions in general.

Hence the approach of analysis from the perspective of the seven-fold Planes, the Hearths of the seven-fold Fires.

This fifth ray is a Being of the intensest spiritual light and in His manifestation on this fifth plane, which is peculiarly His, He symbolises the three aspects in a way achieved by no other ray.   Through His quality of higher mind, this ray is a pure channel for the divine will.   Through the septenary grouping of the solar lives on the mental levels whereon they appear, He brought into functioning activity seven corresponding reflections of the seven centres of Deity, as far as our planet is concerned, a thing which none of His six brother rays have done.   This statement means little to you, but the tremendous sacrifice and effort thus involved are paralleled only by the life of the Buddha, and this is one of the reasons why, in this fifth race, love and mind must eventually and mutually reveal each other.   (EP1. 76-7)

5.   The factor of analysis.   This factor may surprise those who suffer from the misuse of the power to discriminate, to analyse and to criticise.   It is, however, a basic, divine quality, producing wise participation in the Plan and skill in action.
    a.   On the form side, it manifests as the tendency to separate, divide and to place in contradictory positions.   On the life side, it leads to that understanding which tends to identification, through the wider choice and comprehension.
    b.   It is the basic cause and impulse which will lead to the eventual appearance of the kingdom in nature, higher than the human, which is strictly that of the soul, and will produce the manifestation upon earth of the fifth kingdom in nature, that of the kingdom of gods.   This phrase should be noted.
    c.   It is the result of the active work of the sons of God, the sons of mind, and is the part which they are contributing to the total planetary contribution, as part of the great systemic Plan.   The Hierarchy itself is the outer and inner manifestation of the sacrifice of the divine Manasaputras (as They are called in The Secret Doctrine), and its members respond to Their sensed vision of the Plan for the whole.   The Hierarchy is essentially the germ or nucleus of the fifth kingdom in nature.   (EP2. 223)
The rules or living factors which we are now considering and which (when understood and obeyed) will induce soul control in the individual and in the universe, are the expression of the Quality or Nature of God.   They will ultimately lead to the full expression of the divine Psyche.   They will bring into evidence the instinctual, emotional nature of Deity, if such human words can in any way express the divine qualitative potencies.
The Laws of the Universe express the divine Will, and lead to the manifestation of divine Purpose.   This is wisdom.   They ordain and nurture the Plan.
The Rules for Inducing Soul Control express the divine quality and lead to the revelation of God's Nature, which is love.
The Laws of Nature, or the so-called physical laws, express the stage of manifestation or the point reached in the divine expression.   They concern multiplicity, or the quality aspect.   They govern or express that which the divine Spirit (which is will, functioning in love) has been able to effect in conjunction with matter for the production of form.   This emerging revelation will produce the recognition of beauty.   (EP2. 227)

One cannot begin to comprehend the Plan in the Mind and Heart of God, except in broad outlines, without understanding cosmic and systemic constitution and its norms or laws that allow the greater Entity to exist and express on the physical plane.   In other words, these constitutional structures and their norms are what enable divine Life and its character to emerge.   The great puzzle palace of the Planes enables one to derive clues as to the LIVING structure within which we operate, and this structure's natural circulation of energies of all kinds.   Even the simplest of yogis or tai chi practitioners, for instance, understands that the health and power and stamina of the physical body depends on the circulation and understanding of prana or qi.   From a healthy physical base, the higher vehicles become more alive, expressive, sustainable and eventually visible.

Similarly Esoteric Astrology demands an overall grasp of its principles and dimensions — a complex overview.   It is only then that it can be used occultly (scientifically) to understand its application to individuals in helping them to find their unique 'place,' timing, and opportunities within a more clearly understood complex 'system' and its many purposes.

Universal constitution is complex.   Identity, Work, and Relationship are complex.   It's that simple.
