Abbreviations within the text itself will occasionally include CHs for Creative Hierarchies, EGs for Egoic Groups, Ks for Kingdoms, and RRs for Rootraces, the psychic life of a nation (not the physical/material/socioeconomic).

All simple page notations refer to Alice A. Bailey's A Treatise on Cosmic Fire unless otherwise indicated by a 2/3-letter abbreviation. All citations to Helena Petrovna Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine are to the Theosophical Univesity Press centennial (facsimile) edition of 1988.

This set of 8 papers I have developed as a means to help organize my own studies of AAB and HPB, and I hope it will serve others as well. Its main purpose is to clarify the distinct names and terminology DK uses throughout his books to 'place' his discourse in relation to the planes; to allow contrast and differentiation to deepen reflection and enhance cognizance of a "meticulous Entirety." I cite chapter and verse, not out of dogmatism, but to facilitate further study and reflection. Its main purpose is to clarify the outlines of a vast visualization form for meditative practice and contemplation.

HUMANITY NAMES:

      manasaputra (_____)
      Son of Mind (305) – “Man aims at becoming a Divine Manasaputra, or perfected Son of Mind showing forth all the powers inherent in mind, and thus becoming like unto his monadic source, a Heavenly Man."
      Soul or Causal Body

Substantial Focus. The mental/personality aspect of the Heavenly Man, or the Divine Manasaputra, functions through the Hierarchy (5th through 7th Kingdoms), symbolically constituting the head center within Humanity (4th Kingdom), distributing its forces through the planetary brain (not center), Humanity (WM 276).

These forces are stepped down to the correspondences of the endocrine glands in the head and body, which figuratively represent different functioning groups within the planetary sphere and humanity (WM 276); aspirants, probationers, and disciples the somewhat dormant pineal gland; and pioneers, scientists, thinkers, progressives and artists the active pituitary body. Just as it is true that only solar and cosmic Lords formulate thought, it is in Aries and Gemini, Virgo and Scorpio – signs of conflict and crises ruled by Mars or Mercury – that humans begin to truly think, and realize fully in consciousness that "a true idea is in reality a spiritual impulse taking form" (EA 92).

Chakra Focus on Planes. The Hierarchy stands as the 7 head centers to the 7 egoic groups on the mental plane, which in turn find expression through the 3 major head centers and Humanity in the Three Worlds (EA 48).

Skandhas. The 7 Kingdoms are "correspondences in the life of the planetary Logos to the 7 solar systems” [not Logoi] (WM 275). Humanity here on the plane of manas is set at the center between the subhuman and superhuman Kingdoms in Nature, as a guardian and point of distribution to the lower evolutions (WM 529).

Principles. The 7 Principles embodied by the 7 Schools of Atma Vidya (Theosophy) (285).

"... the six great schools of Indian philosophy -- the six principles of that unit body of WISDOM of which the "gnosis," the hidden knowledge, is the seventh." (SD1.278)

These 6 Schools can be looked upon as prototypic examples of fields of examination enduring throughout human history, cultures, and civilizations, taking on differing forms and qualities as groups demand from time to time. These human instinctive fields of inquiry should be understood as a parallel to what Chomsky asserts with regard to linguistics as an organic predisposition to language (innate cognitive structures or mechanisms vs. mere sensorimotor intelligence).

The 4th Ray of Humanity and the Developmental Crises of the Soul. These developmental crises do not necessarily bring about increasing mental polarization, since polarization is dependent upon the path of least resistance for the soul's expression through ray-conditioned (1-3-5-7 or 2-4-6) vehicles. But they do bring about increasing degrees of integration with manasic energy, in its three modes, with the centers and lower vehicles. These crises might be said to be the working out, in human collectivities, of Planetary reorientations on kama-manasic levels.

      Manasaputra (404, 563-5, 689-90) –
      Divine Manasaputra (1029) – “It must be remembered here that the planetary Logoi are only in physical incarnation in our system [emphasis mine], their bodies of individualization being on the cosmic mental plane. (689)
      Sons of Light (520) – produced on the 4th plane by electrical polarity (613, 521)
      Lord of the World (393) –
      spirit of the Earth (EA.59) –
      divine Thinkers (518) – “The mental unit is in a unique and peculiar position as regards man, the Thinker in the causal body. This point will be discussed shortly, suffice it to say here that its mystery lies hid in the nature of the Heavenly Men Themselves. The following correspondence holds the key to this mystery, but it can only be indicated, leaving it to the student to work out the truth for himself. On the three planes of logoic manifestation—the highest three—we have the three aspects manifesting; on the buddhic plane, the fourth cosmic ether, we have the logoic etheric centres demonstrating, or those force vortices which animate the three lower planes of the dense physical manifestation. In connection with the Heavenly Men we have a secondary manifestation, and on the buddhic plane we have Their third aspect found, leaving for Their paramount manifestation of force, the cosmic gaseous plane, or the manasic plane; They are essentially the divine Thinkers, the Manasaputras.”

Our planetary Logos is focused in His mental Body, though polarized in His astral vehicle (WM.390).

“I would ask you to remember that, in our planetary development, the emphasis of the entire evolutionary process is upon the MIND and on the various aspects of the mind –– intelligence, mental perception, the Son of Mind, the lower mind, the abstract mind, the mind as will, the Universal Mind.” (TEV.71)

Substantial Focus. Since the cosmic planes have relevance to the 7-fold evolution of the solar Logos (344), this process of incarnation corresponds to human evolution focused through the human causal bodies on the 5th (3rd) "solar" (logoic dense [EA 40, 44]) physical subplanes; the planetary (Three World) physical plane providing the field for 3-fold human evolution (382, 166, 1089-93), and the process of etheric substitution (TEV 159) on the solar/planetary scale. This signifies that the 7 solar systemic planes are the field of 5-fold planetary evolution, which in turn is reinforced by the statement that, of the Heavenly Man's 5 permanent atoms, only 1 is found within the solar system (532). Later (689) it is explicitly stated that the planetary Logoi only incarnate through our system; they preserve their bodies of conscious individualization on the cosmic mental plane.)

The Trees of Life and Knowledge. When individualization from animal man took place, it was the first taste of the Tree of Knowledge, or self-knowledge, and the intimation of being created an immortal mini-god — something no one could bear parting with thereafter. Even though human-animal units were individualized as "undetached sparks" and as "separate" units of consciousness in mineral, vegetable, and animal kingdoms, the sheer pleasure of such self-reflective knowledge or awareness of individuality, however minimal, was un-"known." The method utilized in this Lemurian period and most commonly on Earth was the introduction of the solar angels, and cultivation of the solar causal body in humanity by the Lords of the Flame from Venus. This is the secret of the Second Fall into generation. (See compilation on Buddhi-Manas Three Classes; also SD vol. 2, Anthropogenesis, throughout.))

Kama-Manasic Focus. Neither the planetary system, entity, or planetary Logos per se — the spirit of the Earth is to the Logos what the personality form nature is to the soul of a human (EA.59), in His case the monad expressing through the spiritual triad. The (monadic) planetary Spirit (105) makes its impact upon human egoic groups through the soul, the (astral) planetary Entity through the human personality (WM.432). “The life of the planetary Spirit makes its impact via the soul,” in other words it expresses the soul-infused Personality of the Heavenly Man, Whose polarization on this level is buddhic but whose incentive is atmic (628-30), in the triadal context. The planetary Entity’s polarization is basically astral-buddhic, in its capacity of vivifying the personality mechanism. Our planetary Logos is focused in His mental Body, though polarized in His astral (WM.390). It seems that these 2 terms – planetary Spirit and planetary Entity – are reflected in what we can perceive of the ongoing status quo of the evolving consciousness of the planetary Logos through an obstinate human Kingdom, composed of the Lords of Light and Love evolving as souls, and those of Materialism and Obstruction (EA.160-1) ruling helpless humanity-per-se.)

On the 2nd and 3rd cosmic physical subplanes, or chain and round levels, the Manasaputras or Greater and Lesser Builders of the 6th cosmic (astral) plane, reflecting the Divine Manasaputra on the 5th cosmic (mental) plane, embody centers on our cosmic physical subplanes which, under stimulation, bring into physical incarnation certain types of manasaputras, ourselves (706, 684-5). We must remember the Greater Builders channel cosmic force, while the Lesser Builders channel solar and lunar forces (627). It is clear that these 2 groups represent the 2 periodical vehicles corresponding to soul and personality in the planetary Logos Himself; the Greater Builders being more aligned with purpose and plan.)

Manasic Focus. Whereas the 7 groups of human souls in their form aspect or planetary manasic expression might be said to emanate and manifest from the 7 planetary head centers; the principle of consciousness or awareness emanates from the 7-fold energies of the Heart of the Sun (1157), and produces the 7 types of souls (WM.433). This essential duality in planetary life is an expression of the impact of 2 types of force emanating from the solar centers -- spiritual force from the 7 Rishis of the Great Bear affecting the monads or Creative Hierarchic units, and buddhic force from the Pleiades vivifying the solar Angels. A third energy reaches the evolving 4 Kingdoms, from Sirius (1161-3), which was partially treated under the solar kama-manasic relation to the planetary Entity, below.)

These factors of egoic groups, Sirius, and ray influences are all synthesized by the constellation Gemini through its rulers (Mercury, Venus, Earth), said to represent the "holy triangle" of Shamballa, and to relate to the Personality of our planetary Logos as mind, kama-manas, and vital body, respectvely (EA 362), if Mars substitutes for Earth.)

Exoteric Saturn (in its relation to Sirius [IHS.98]) rules the Three Worlds of the solar dense physical through the 4 Maharajahs associated with the 4th plane mediating mental unit of the solar and planetary systemic mental planes (407). Esoteric Saturn rules the solar logoic physical permanent atom from the systemic atomic levels. In both respects Saturn is assocated with the planetary Dweller on the Threshold (EA 164), especially from the point of view of the Adi plane planetary Logos vivifying His physical system from the (cosmic) atomic physical subplane. One of the most powerful of the Lords of Karma (EA 164), Saturn focuses the transmission of cosmic mind to our 7 schemes (378), and this in alliance with the Pleiades, negatively polarized to the 7 schemes, stimulating the evolution of mind in the Heavenly Men (347) of the planetary chains (377). When the planetary Logos began to take physical incarnation through the necessity (Sons of Necessity) of the human individualization process, gripping His physical vehicle through His etheric (agnishvattas in re lunar pitris), He brought opportunity (Saturn) for further cyclic evolution to Humanity.)

Venus, ruling the 5th Ray, stimulated the acquisition of knowledge (EP1.356) and simultaneously the Logoic dense physical body of our Three Worlds (EP1.416) through the evolution of humanity. This is reflected by the fact of Venus' chain relation to our Earth as the latter's soul principle; by its stimulation into existence and activity of the 5th Kingdom in Nature (EP2.223) through the mastery of the lower self and nature (LOM 18); and by the transition of (4th Ray Soul) Humanity's personality Ray from the 3rd to the 5th Ray (EA ___; EP1.350). This triangle of Saturn-Pleiades-Venus is one of the reasons it is said that the triangle of Earth-Saturn-Venus is involved in the transmission of solar Kundalini (CF 181-2), and is presently undergoing stimulation. It is involved in the initiation and refinement of human constitutional vehicles.)

In connection with the planetary Logos, the causal body is found on the 3rd subplane of the 5th cosmic or manasic plane (532, 499), His incentive being derived from the cosmic atmic plane (628-30). In the same chart (at 344) the solar Logoic causal vehicle is depicted on the 1st or atomic subplane of the cosmic mental plane, at the very least implying complete freedom from the influence of the 7 planes that the human monad experiences at the 5th initiation, transferring the focus of its work to the cosmic astral plane (RI 361). This gives us some perspective.)

SOLAR NAMES:

      Divine Manasaputra (305) – Man aims at becoming a Divine Manasaputra, or perfected Son of Mind showing forth all the powers inherent in mind, and thus becoming like unto his monadic source, a Heavenly Man. A Heavenly Man has developed Manas, and is occupied with the problem of becoming a Son of Wisdom, not inherently but in full manifestation. A solar Logos is both a Divine Manasaputra and likewise a Dragon of Wisdom, and His problem concerns itself [Page 306] with the development of the principle of cosmic Will which will make Him what has been called a "Lion of Cosmic Will." (305-6)
      “All manifestation emanates, or is electrified, from the cosmic mental plane.” (317)

The causal body of the solar Logos, along with the 3 vehicles of His Personality (3 Persons of the Logoic Trinity [532]), is found [reflected] on the 1st subplane of the 5th cosmic and is here hypothesized as being found in actuality upon the 3rd subplane of the 5th supercosmic plane (See TABLE 1). The Sun manifests through the Manasaputras on the top two cosmic physical subplanes, through the manasaputras on the 5th (manasic) cosmic physical subplane. It is hinted that on the cosmic planes the solar Logos holds an analogous position to that of a man within the solar systemic planes (295).

With regard to (the reflection of) the 3 solar Logoic Periodic Vehicles on the cosmic planes ensouling the Logoic Triad -- Mahadeva, Vishnu, Brahma (244) -- Agni as Vishnu, or the Dragon of Wisdom in incarnation (602-3, 176), by virtue of the focused manasic point of the Logoic Triad, is found reflected down into the Logoic Personality as Indra-Agni (493, 438, WM.390) on the 4 higher cosmic manasic levels. Though sometimes referred to as the Divine Manasaputra (1160), the logoic Personality is soul infused, unlike the case of average man, and is more frequently referred to by DK as the Heavenly Man (251c-254). These 3 periodical vehicles reflect themselves distinctly in aggregate as solar Lords (lst two subplanes), solar Angels (3rd subplane), and solar Pitris (4th subplane) of our cosmic physical mental plane (869,878,698-9).

Not only is Agni Lord of the mental plane (602), he is the (Sirian) Solar Lord aspect (570-2) of the solar Logoic Ego (Sirius). The solar Lords, as progenitors of the causal sheathe during individualization through the solar Angel's focused Presence in the causal lotus, creating the causal body with the help of the solar Pitris on the 3rd subplane, represent Logoic ideation as the Will aspect of the 5th plane (EA 600), controlling and coordinating the generation of a receptacle of qualified manasic energy which is the mental unit of the planetary Logos on the 4th subplane -- or the (buddhic) Heavenly Man aspect -- qualified in this case by the monadic auric egg and sutratma.

Solar Mental Unit. True ideas originate upon a spiritual impulse (EA 92) whose evolution is conditioned by the planetary etheric triangle (EA 102), under the 5th Solar Law of Fixation (591). Will, or solar manas (353), can only be contacted from the mental plane (EA 586). Only cosmic and solar Lords formulate thoughts (562).

The 49 solar Manus (631) of the solar causal, predominantly reflected down through the cosmic astrally polarized solar Personality, are found on the atomic and subatomic cosmic physical subplanes and referred to there as Dhyan Chohans (1184) or our 7 Creative Hierarchies (630). These in turn represent the aggregate form of the Force aspect of Sirian systemic levels, "system" always referring to the physical aspect of any entity -- Sirian, solar, planetary or human. Here, on the first 3 cosmic physical subplanes, is clear instantiation of the distinction between a Ray, an energy, or a force (WM 291).

Solar Causal.
“A solar Logos uses for His energy centres the planetary schemes, each of which embodies a peculiar type of energy, and each of which, therefore, vibrates to the key of the logoic solar Angel, of which the human solar Angel is a dim reflection. It is interesting here to note that as the human solar Angel is a unity, manifesting through three tiers of petals, the logoic correspondence is even more interesting, for that great cosmic Entity demonstrates on the cosmic mental plane as a triple flame working through seven tiers of petals, and it is the energy from these seven circles of energy which pulsates through the medium of any scheme. All this is hidden in the mystery of the ONE ABOUT WHOM NAUGHT MAY BE SAID, and it is not possible for men to solve it,—the truth being obscure to even the highest Dhyan Chohan of our system.” (1161)

SIRIUS NAMES

      Lord of Cosmic Will (63) –
      Three Logoi (62) – “It should be carefully borne [Page 62] in mind that the manifestation of the work of the three Logoi is the expression of the mind of some cosmic Entity. In the same way, the seven planetary Entities, the seven Heavenly Men, are seven Logoi (likewise cosmic Beings) Who in Their totality form the Body of the threefold Logos.” (62-3)

Physical or Systemic Expression
From the angle of vision of the Creative Hierarchies (EA.57-8), or Sirian System Skandhas, Humanity is a triple composite of the 4th, 5th and 6th Creative Hierarchies:

"Manas is, really WILL working itself out on the physical plane..." (353).
HPB denominates these three solar groups Barhishad pitris (manasaputra aspect), Agnishvattas (solar angels), and Kumaras (solar lords associated with the manasadevas, AAB's 'sons of God') at SD2. 88.   Even though the Barhishad pitris are called 'lunar' or planetary, it is important to remember that this signifies something past or dead, such as the Moon, the Moon Chain, and solar and cosmic "moons" which have miasmic effects systemically.   The previous solar system is such a "moon," and must be said to be 'solar' in its constitutional nature.


The 6th and 7th Kingdoms in Nature are to be found evolving through the VIIth VIth and Vth Creative Hierarchies, ruled respectively by Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury. (_______________________)

Threefold Manasic Expression.

The work of the 3 solar Logoi (as They rule the 3 solar systems) are the expression of a cosmic Entity or 3-fold solar Mind, yet all 3 are Rays emanating from one cosmic center (63). Here we are speaking of them as Ray Lords on all the correspondences to the atmic plane -- yet They are solar Ray Lords. In the body of a cosmic Logos, the solar Logos is a center or chakra (292).

The cosmic Logos of our system works through 3 major solar systems (ours is not one), utilizing 7 solar systems (ours is one)(353). The center represented by our Sun is unknown until the 7th initiation (847). Extrasystemic or cosmic rays, animating the 6 other solar systems, influence our system and are absorbed and circulated by our Heavenly Man (437). These extrasystemic rays reach us through the 2nd and 4th cosmic ethers. Of the 3 major solar systems, the Lord of Cosmic Love is considered the elder Son of his Brothers, the Lord of Will and the Lord of Active Intelligence (63). They form the PERSONALITY OF THE LOGOS, the ONE ABOUT WHOM NAUGHT MAY BE SAID (64). Each of these cosmic Rays is threefold, with the aspects of a central spiritual sun, the heart of a sun, and a physical sun (83).

From this Sirian PERSONALITY come the Manasadevas of the cosmic mental plane, the Lords of the Flame from the cosmic astral plane, and the Agnishvatta Pitris from the cosmic physical plane. The lower correspondences of these groups of cosmic manasadevas (one of the 3 higher orders of Agnishvattas [884] of the solar Causal) are the three classes of Agnishvatta Pitris -- solar Lords, Angels and Pitris -- the jewel, 3-tier triangle (883), and 9-fold petal substance, respectively (708-9) of human causal levels. The 5-fold Dhyanis are the human reflections of the 5 Kumaras, representatives of the 5 Mind-Born Sons of Brahma (361) which hold in cohesion the aggregate human causal bodies of the planetary Causal Lotus.

Causal Expression.
Although it is said that the Manasadevas are the cosmic prototypes of our solar Angels (712), the method of individualization by the coming in of the Lords of the Flame (701) is the primary of 3 methods in this solar system (711-19) coordinating the Agnishvatta Pitris, in turn responsible for our groups of human egoic lotuses. Individualization produces egoic activity in the causal body of our solar Logos (Sirius [571, 1161, _____]) and increased solar livingness, even though individualization represents the incarnation process of the planetary Logos in his capacity as a planetary scheme, which in turn is but a solar center (1161-2). This in turn evokes a response from the prototype of our Septenate (the 7 solar systems), the 7 Rishis of the Great Bear on the cosmic buddhic plane (718).

SIRIAN NAMES

      Lords of Liberation (?)
Solar Logoi in group formation (Sirian causal) evolve on supercosmic dense subplanes; planetary Logoic groups on cosmic dense subplanes; and the groups of human Monads on solar dense subplanes. This of course changes at the 3rd initiation, and at the 5th initiation humans begin to function consciously on cosmic astral subplanes (RI 361), where Earth School testing takes place on the 3rd (5th) cosmic astral subplane (1178) prior to full entrance onto the 7 Paths of Higher Evolution. The above two paragraphs state part of the basis for the hypothesized 7-fold Supercosmic and Paracosmic planes set above those found in the chart at CF 344 (See TABLE C, The Planes).

This crucial manasic mediating role as key plane of the solar system (848) can be further expanded through examining:
  • strictly 4th Kingdom incarnating egoic groups (840-855)
  • chakra types (EP2 520-7)
  • stock types (EP2 202-9)
  • 4 Vidyas (SD1.168)
