Abbreviations within the text itself will occasionally include CHs for Creative Hierarchies, EGs for Egoic Groups, Ks for Kingdoms, and RRs for Rootraces, the psychic life of a nation (not the physical/material/socioeconomic).

All simple page notations refer to Alice A. Bailey's A Treatise on Cosmic Fire unless otherwise indicated by a 2/3-letter abbreviation. All citations to Helena Petrovna Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine are to the Theosophical Univesity Press centennial (facsimile) edition of 1988.

This set of 8 papers I have developed as a means to help organize my own studies of AAB and HPB, and I hope it will serve others as well. Its main purpose is to clarify the distinct names and terminology DK uses throughout his books to 'place' his discourse in relation to the planes; to allow contrast and differentiation to deepen reflection and enhance cognizance of a "meticulous Entirety." I cite chapter and verse, not out of dogmatism, but to facilitate further study and reflection. Its main purpose is to clarify the outlines of a vast visualization form for meditative practice and contemplation.

"It is of course apparent that the effect of the interrelation existing between animals and men is to produce in the former that step forward which is called individualisation.   This event is a consummation of the process of transfusion, and indicates the appearance of the three divine aspects in a unit of life in form.   A son of God, a Lord of dedicated and directed Will, is born, and the third divine principle of purposive energy is fused with the other two and brings about an entire reorganisation within the animal form.   As esotericists have long pointed out, individualisation is a great planetary experiment, and when it was instituted it superseded the earlier method, employed upon the Moon, wherein the urge to reach out and on (called aspiration where man is concerned) was the method employed."

The Soul Ray of Humanity is the 4th of Harmony through Conflict in its relation to the 2nd Ray of the Planetary School of Magnetic Response.   Humanity's personality is the 5th ray of Knowledge through Discriminating Wisdom and has relation to the planetary Personality overlooking the rise and dissolution of civilizations, nations and groups (EP1.343).

Human will is expressed in 7 ways on the planes (RI.718; EA.505): strength, fixed intention or kama-manasic self-will, determination, fixity of purpose, will, spiritual will, divine will.

The true will can only be evoked by the soul, and has nothing to do with the efforts of the personality.   "The secret of the will lies in the recognition of the divine nature of man."   Will works downwards into form;   desire upwards through the form.   The spiritual will can only be evoked through understanding, and truly realized through group use (ExH.342-5).

Nine petals are awakened in the fully developed triad;   this is the flowering forth of the soul prior to the 4th initiation and disintegration of the causal body.   The karana sharira also demonstrates the human being as he truly is in relation to the Creative Hierarchies -- a member of the 9th hierarchy counting down;   as a soul, the shrine essentially of 4th plane buddhi;   the number 9 of initiation (585);   and what will become the fully unfolded "flower of an earlier system" (EA 40-44).   These are some of the reasons why HPB introduced the science of the soul with Atma as man's highest principle, and only hinted at the work of the monad / jiva / spark in our "scheme" of evolution.   During the 4th and 5th initiations, in the context of the Vishnu aspect, DK calls Atma the highest aspect of the monad (730).   However, this is the Flame aspect of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma in "synthetic manifestation";   these 3 corresponding to the Spark, Flame, and Fire aspects of Humanity's collective 3 periodical vehicles (729).

Substantial Focus.     On the triadic plane of "Higher Manas," the New Group of World Servers acts as an intermediary between Hierarchy and Humanity as the forces of the planetary ajna center, cooperating in the work with the World of Souls (RI 373).

Chakra Focus on Planes.     The New Group of World Servers represents the ajna center (RI 368; Rule 12) within humanity, which clarifies the passage (EA 454-5) where 5th RR or present Humanity is regarded as the ajna center in its monadic or Sirian solar aspect of the Heavenly Man in incarnation.   One must remember that the 7 Heavenly Men are, to the Sirian Systemic Entity of which the solar Logos is a reflection, as 7 centers in the physical body of man (296).

From another point of view, the New Group represents the planetary physical plane ajna center of the planetary Logos, in relation to the throat center of Humanity at large, eventually expressing the heart center of the Lord of the World in a strictly ashramic sense (RI _____).   It is interesting that in this above-mentioned passage the Rays are directly related to the centers of the Heavenly Man for the first time, suggesting the relevance of the buddhic ashrams.

In the context of the rounds and work of the IIIrd CH's emphasis in the previous, and the IVth CH's emphasis in the present solar system, humanity represented the solar plexus.   It still does in the sense thathuman cooperation in transferring the planetary solar plexus to the heart is a major goal (in this round?).   This is a major goal of the Piscean Age and Ray Six symbolized by its rulers Mars and Neptune, whereby the martial life "objective and full of blood" is inwardly transmuted and fused with Neptune, the One Initiator, "subjective and full of life." (EA.217) If humanity transferred from the third solar system through Globe G on the atmic plane, in this system the goal will be transference on the monadic (_____).

Skandhas.     On the monadic level the planetary Nirmanakayas act as intermediaries between Hierarchy and Shamballa as the planetary ajna center itself. Humanity eventually moves on to work with the Hierarchy as the heart center, while the Nirmanakayas go on to work with Shamballa in the planetary head centers.

From the point of view of superhuman evolution in the 5 Worlds of the Hierarchy (1224; EA 43, 94), the 3 higher subplanes of the atmic plane correspond to the Ego in the 3 Worlds on the 3 subplanes of the mental. Atma is also called "Higher Manas" in the theosophical writings (65). It is the plane whereon the Rays come and go in individualized consciousness.

The Rays that reach us from extraplanetary sources pass through Shamballa and in turn are passed on through Hierarchy and Humanity (TEV 81).

 "The life of the planetary Spirit makes its impact via the soul," in other words it expresses the soul-infused Personality of the Heavenly Man, Whose polarization on this level is buddhic but whose incentive is atmic (628-30), in the triadal context.   The planetary Entity's polarization is basically astral-buddhic, in its capacity of vivifying the personality mechanism.   Our planetary Logos is focused in His mental Body, though polarized in His astral (WM.390).

Discussing the Vishnu-Surya Aspect manifesting on the 7 systemic planes, DK identifies the soul aspect of the planetary Logos as the 7 Heavenly Men in relation to the Heart of the Sun.   He then gives the names for the Vishnu Aspect in sequence as the (monadic) Spiritual Son, the (atmic) 7 Rays of its manifestation, identified in the (buddhic) Heavenly Men, who are esoterically called the (manasaputra) "Sons of Light" as the logoic Ego manifests in His physical vehicle (629).   This is restated in several places when a distinction is made between the lesser Heavenly Men on the buddhic plane and their prototypes on the monadic (534, _____).   This has to do with the Heavenly Man's atma-buddhi polarization as a triad, or essentially as a monad.

The three Buddhas of Activity are the prototypes of the 3 major Ray Lords (RI 180).

Three of the Ray Lives are triple in Their Personality nature, expressing the Life of a cosmic Entity through three planetary schemes.   For instance, the Personality of the Lord of the Third Ray expresses through Saturn, Earth and Mars (EP2.99), three planets where suffering is peculiarly felt as the result of spiritual rebellion, is eventually faced and sorted out through sacrifice and right choice.   Free will, sacrifice and choice are just several sides of the same currency.   The Personalities of these 3 planets are conditioned and convey the 3 force aspects of extra-systemic, systemic, and planetary contact;   Saturn expressing mentally, Mars astrally, and Earth physically (EA 26).

The Heavenly Men have Their main focal points on our 2nd systemic plane, and are seeking consciousness on the three triadal planes (atma-buddhi-manas), with regard to the cells in their bodies (271).   These triadal planes are to the Heavenly Men a parallel to the Three Worlds of the human being.

While the extra-systemic or cosmic Rays conducted by the seven Ray Lords make contact and circulate through centers on the 2nd or polar magnetic plane, and only appear when arriving at the 4th or electric plane, they are only organized and individualized by Atma in the manner of absorption of higher (cosmic 4th/3rd plane) Prana by the 3rd (cosmic physical) subplane -- a parallel to the formation of the Ego on the 3rd manasic subplane (_____).   The 7 Rays are an emanation from the 2nd plane Spirits before the Throne and constitute the coherent planetary Logoic etheric vehicles (TEV.161).   This 3rd plane can also be considered that of plasma, or magnetized and disaggregated electrical substance (_____), ruled by the 3rd Law of Disintegration (580-3).   This is hte relation of the 4th cosmic plane Fohat to 3rd cosmic plane Mahat &mdash both emanating from 2nd cosmic plane Mulaprakriti, veiling the 1st cosmic plane Išvara (CF._____).

Our planetary Logos is on the Cosmic Probationary Path (EA 268), since He has taken 3 cosmic initiations and is responsive to soul energy, represented by the Sun Sirius (EA 504), and is in the process of taking the 4th cosmic initiation.   He is not considered a sacred Planet on the Cosmic Path of Discipleship since He is not as yet responsive to the source of cosmic Prana and planetary Manas, the Pleiades.   However, He has built the planetary antahkarana, which enabled Him to establish contact with one of the Pleiades when He took initiation 18 million years ago (349), at the start of the Vaivasvata Manvantara (SD2.310), at the middle of 3rd RR individualization (SD2.156).

Understanding our 7 planes as planetary in nature, we can begin to understand the planetary and cosmic planes in an interplanetary sense.   When considering the 5-World Planetary Purpose (TEV 120; EP2 217), one remembers that the New Group or World Servers stands to Humanity as the Nirmanakayas stand to Hierarchy and the Buddhas of Activity stand to Shamballa (TEV 45).   This has a lower correspondence in the domesticated animals' relation to their own kingdom (TEV 68).   In the Heavenly Man, this indicates the triadic Ray aspect of the Monad (273) focusing through Shamballa, channeled by Hierarchy, and reflected within Humanity through the contemplation and work of the New Group of World Servers and the men and women of goodwill, in order to bring the principle of loving Service alive throughout the planetary sphere of interest, and hence restore the joy of thriving world endeavor and the inspiration and encouragement of right human relations to all departments of planetary living and effort.

One permanent cosmic Ray is expressed by our Sun, and with 6 others of the 7 solar systems are those found circulating through planetary life.

Since our solar Logos has developed the manasic aspect as well as the buddhic as a Dragon of Wisdom, He is working toward actualizing the principle of cosmic Will as a "Lion of Cosmic Will" (306).   This helps explain the fact that the majority of the "Masters of Wisdom" pass on to the Ray Path, among the 7 Cosmic Paths (1261), which Path is called the "outer door of entry."

This also explains the future goal of the Logos, incarnating through the Divine Manasaputras, for the Agnishvatta "Pitris" (at once cosmic 4th mental subplane solar Logoic mental unit, or solar causal mahatic groups of "sparks" and, in aggregate, cosmic physical mental subplane solar Lords, Angels and Pitris) -- to create in Humanity a vehicle of consciousness on the buddhic plane free from dependence upon the manasic body (703).   This is further discussed at LOM 79(c).   It is useful here to remember the "quality names" of the 3 main (Aspect Ray) groups of the Sons of Mind from "Venus," who are ourselves in essence, or the manasaputras:   Lords of Sacrifice, Lords of Ceaseless and Persevering Devotion, and Lords of Knowledge (EA 188).

Venus Chain here

Among the 7 streams of cosmic energy available in the solar Logoic physical permanent atom, three 7-fold currents are major and emanate from the 7-fold Great Bear, 7-fold Pleiades and the (veiled) 7-fold Sirian System of which our Sun and Sirius are both members (1181-2).   They correspond to the 3 Major Synthesizing Rays on buddhic, atmic and monadic levels.   They also correspond to Him what the head, heart, and throat centers are to a developed human initiate on Earth (EA 504).

"When the primordial Ray (38, 41) of intelligent activity, the divine Ray (38, 40, 44) of intelligent love, and the 3rd cosmic Ray (39) of intelligent will meet, blend, merge, and blaze forth, the [solar] Logos will take His fifth initiation, thus completing one of His cycles." (45)

It should be remembered that only five rays are dominant during any planetary or historical period, and this is true for a system, a scheme, and a chain. (EP1.88)
"Manas is the united faculty of 4 of the HMen, synthesized through a 5th HMan on the 3rd plane of the system."   They are the Ray Lords of the 4 minor Rays "Who find their synthesis through the 3rd Ray of Activity ... they merge into the greater life of the Lord of the 3rd Ray of Aspect on atmic levels ... the totality of manasic energy."   They are called Divine Manasaputras on the 3rd/5th mental plane since they are soul-infused as HMen and express the spirit or `divine' life through their lower vehicles (CF 336).


SIRIUS NAMES

      Seven Classes of Dhyan Chohans
"...as seven distinct rays radiate from the `Central Spiritual Sun,' all adepts and Dhyan Chohans are divisible into seven classes..."   (SDI.574)

The impact of the Rays emanating from the 7 solar systems through Sirius (solar Soul), being stepped down through Neptune, the reflection of the Solar astral permanent atom (406), on through Saturn's synthesizing scheme and Jupiter, the agent of the Sun's lower solar forces, down through the triangles of Sun-Jupiter-Venus which brought the Lords of the Flame (EA 301) and of Jupiter-Venus-Earth (370) with the assist of Neptune, Lord of Sirian Vth Creative Hierarchy of Agnishvattas ruling the 9 groups (3 grades each) of solar Lords, Angels, and Pitris, in that order downward (768, 773-81), whose 9-fold buddhic coordination (707-10) organizes the 9-fold human causal bodies after the manner of the Triad (177, 869), and then on through Venus and Mercury, the 2 planetary schemes where buddhi is manasically demonstrating and which, along with 3 others that manifest manas, constitute the 5 Kumaras, the Mind-Born Sons of Brahma (377, 403), also understood as the 5 manasic Rays over which presides the systemic correspondence to the Mahachohan (363), both 5 Kumaras and Mahachohan rulers of the Solar Angels to be adapted for assimilation by human IIIrd (Vth) Creative Hierarchy human animal personalities inherited from the previous solar system.

The Five Kumaras.     The 5 Kumaras, the sum total of manas on Earth, are representatives to the Ray Lords and also intermediaries between the Scheme (2nd plane) and Chain (4th plane). This locates their active nature on the 3rd or Atmic plane, with regard to our planetary Life.   The Kumaras are the Agents (1st, 2nd planes) for the Lords of the Rays to the Monads on any ray in any particular Chain (4th plane) or Globe (5th evolutionary plane) (413).


SIRIAN SYSTEM NAMES

In a sense, the 7 Cosmic Paths are on the other side of the 7 Rays -- the Paths leading out of our system to one of the 7 solar systems of the hypothesized Sirian System (one of which is the star Sirius) -- the Rays representing the emanating and radiating influences from these same 7 systems (WM 437-8). The Paths are not governed at all by the 7 Rays, yet the two are interrelated. They are related more directly to the 7 cosmic Planes, looked upon as spirillae of the physical permanent atom of the ONE ABOUT WHOM NAUGHT MAY BE SAID (RI 361). The 7 Ashrams upon the 7 Rays are the 7 Entrances to the Way of the Higher Evolution (RI 284) and are directly related to the 7 Paths (RI 371).

Three of these cosmic Rays are 3-fold in nature, embodying a cosmic Entity. Speaking on the cosmic physical level of a system, these three correspond to the central sun, heart of the sun, and the physical sun -- or the systemic sphere, the receptive central pole, and the surface radiation or emanation of solar prana racing to the 7 sacred planets which make up the scheme of solar chakras (83).

HERE I would suggest that the 7 cosmic paths are associated with the 7 Cluster-Systems related to each of the 7 Suns of our own Sirian Cluster-System.

The Seven Rays are given 7 names on the planes (EP1.44, 22-3).

    •   Aeons, or the Gnostic Emanations on the 1st plane (EP1.22, 47)
    •   Potencies or Builders
    •   Rays, Sources of life
    •   Vedic Pranas or Breaths, or 7 Rishis
    •   7 basic Energies, Ray Breaths (EP1.60) and HMen, in the sense of solar Logoic centers coordinated by the 5th Ray Lord on the mental plane (EP1.76).
    •   7 Streams tinctured by quality
    •   7 Streams of Force
